The Nature of Spirit- Missy Cory and Shelley JundArt :: Art Show
The Nature of Spirit- Missy Cory and Shelley Jund
4:30 PM

Description:
The Nature of Spirit- Missy Cory and Shelley Jund
April 22- May 27, 2018

Inspired by contemplation of the micro- and macrocosm and how each is perceived on physical and spiritual levels, Missy Cory and Shelley Jund are interested in overlapping themes that bridge the gap between art and science. Conceptually, Cory and Jund share common threads throughout their work; however, their interpretations impart their own unique slants.
Cory’s work focuses on the transformative effect of experienced moments and places that shape us by collecting and integrating site-specific photographs, samples and drawings--most recently from geologically significant locations in Idaho, Iceland and Sweden—and working more abstractly with the hazy softness of encaustic. Jund’s work, more illustrative and featuring the glassy sharpness of resin, examines organisms, bones, fossils, and micro/macro phenomena by comparing different physical realms and suggested states of consciousness: the cosmic and a higher frequency; the terrestrial and an earthly, wakeful state; the aquatic and a dreamtime with ancient memories.
In The Nature of Spirit, Cory and Jund demonstrate the possibility of dynamic contrasts between contemplation of systematic, scientific study and more intuitive, spiritual knowledge.
