Gorge: My Journey Up Kilimanjaro at 300 Pounds

Boise Public Library will host author Kara Richardson Whitely at the Main Library on Monday, May 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the third floor Marion Bingham Room. She wrote Gorge: My Journey Up Kilimanjaro at 300 Pounds. A book signing will follow.

Whitely had reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro once. But, when she failed in her second attempt, feelings of failure and shame drove her weight up to over 300 pounds. Struggling with food addiction, she resolved to climb the mountain again without waiting for her plus-sized status to disappear. In the end, she hiked it a total of three times. Her difficult but inspiring trek speaks to every woman who has struggled with her self-image or felt that food was controlling her life.
