Field Trip: S. Fork Boise River-Anderson Ranch Dam Loop
8:00 AM
Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology
Description:
IMMG Field Trip Coordinator Steve Cox will lead a tour to Anderson Ranch Dam and then along the upper South Fork of the Boise River to look at intrusive features and volcanic formations. We will also see metasedimentary rocks as we enjoy the beautiful South Fork Canyon, then ascend to the Smiths Prairie and back through the "inverted geology" of canyon-filling basalt flows. This is an extension of the popular Don Adair trip along the South Fork coming from the downstream side.
The trip will travel along I-84 to Mountain Home where we will exit at Highway 20 and re-group at the big Pilot Travel Center before proceeding up Highway 20 to the Anderson Ranch Dam Road. The return will be via Blacks Creek Road and we should be back in Boise by 5:00 PM. Bring lunch and water and dress for the weather (it will be warm). $15 Non-members, $10 Museum members, No pre-registration is required. We will register at the Museum at 7:30 AM for a departure at 8:00 AM. Sponsored by the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise, 83712, www.idahomuseum.org
