Boise Public Library
Description:
Create 'Simple Machines' at the Library! at Bown Crossing
Idaho Public Television education specialist on hand for demonstrations and giveaways

A new program at the Library! at Bown Crossing aims to teach kids science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills using nothing more than boxes, wood spools, and other everyday items.

Called "Simple Machines in Motion," the program offers a variety of exercises for kids ages 6-12. In one scenario, kids will build a tower of boxes, then try to make a Slinky navigate the steps without crashing. Another exercise has kids building motors using simple wooden spools, then racing them against their friends. Cindy Lunte, an education specialist at Idaho Public Television, will be on hand to help facilitate, and will be handing out STEM-related giveaways and books to each child who attends.
