Description:
Expert Explores Arabic Spiritual Folk Dance
Library workshop explains the history and rhythms behind the dance

Derived from the ancient rituals of Sufi mystics, Arabic spiritual folk dance has become an art form of its own. This workshop will provide an educational basis on the history of the dance and Islamic Sufi practice, and serve as a practicum for the meditative motions and rhythms ingrained in this stirring art form.

The workshop is presented by Karim Nagi, an internationally acclaimed Egyptian-American musician and folk dancer. Nagi will focus on Egyptian Sufi "Moulid" practice, which involves melodic chanting, rhythmic breathing, and sweeping movements, including whirling.

This is event is open to all ages, and no prior registration is necessary. For more information, call 208-972-8255, or visit boisepubliclibrary.org/calendar.
