Rethinking Gender: Past, Present, and Future
6:00 PM
The College of Idaho
Description:
Instructor: Anne Spencer
Date: Mondays, October 23, 30, & November 6
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Location: KAIC 101

Class Description:
"Is it a boy or a girl?" is one of the first questions we ask when a baby is born. However, our current understanding of the biological, psychological, and social aspects of sexual development show that gender is much more complicated than the answer to this single question. This class provides a safe environment to learn about the complexity of biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and their relationship to each other. We will discuss the biological basis of sexual development and explain various ways that people understand their own gender identity. We will provide lots of opportunities for questions and discussion in a supportive environment and we will place special emphasis on how to support friends and relatives who are trying explore and understand their own gender identities.
