Description:
Mary Hallock Foote and A Vision of Home in the West

Boise Public Library is pleased to host Dr. Stacey Guill for a presentation about Mary Hallock and Arthur De Wint Foote's home near the southern foot of Lucky Peak Dam and their family life. Guill's presentation, The Stone House in the Canyon: Mary Hallock Foote and A Vision of Home in the West, is scheduled for Monday, November 7, 6:00-7:00 p.m., in the Main Library Marion Bingham Room.

As a wife, mother, novelist, illustrator, and interpreter of the American West, Mary Hallock Foote created an authentic depiction of western life from a woman's perspective, and helped shape Boise life and culture. Arthur De Wint Foote's engineering and entrepreneurial innovations had significant impact in the American West. The US Bureau of Reclamation used his irrigation plan for the New York Canal to complete the irrigation system in the Treasure Valley.

Guill is a promoter of Boise history education, and is part of an informal group dedicated to improving the interpretive offerings at Foote Park at the site of the old Foote home. She contributed an article about Mary Hallock Foote to the publication Boise@ One Five Zero: Essays and Poems from the City of Boise.
