Dave Thomas' "Time Line Paintings"
5:00 PM Linen Building
Description:
DAVE THOMAS ARTIST DIALOG to be held Feb. 7 at THE GALLERY AT THE LINEN BUILDING
Thomas' 'Time Line Paintings' exhibit showcases ongoing mixed-media study
An artist dialog on Dave Thomas' "Time Line Paintings" will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at The Gallery at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise's Linen District. "Time Line Paintings" runs through Feb. 20. Admission to The Gallery is free. Full bar available (ID required). Plenty of free, off-street parking is available at the Linen Building.
The "Time Line Paintings" series, which features four large mixed-media canvases and 20 mixed-media studies on polypropylene, began in 2009 and "continues to be a thought," Thomas says. "If I didn't make this particular painting today, then it would never be made - my time I'm on the planet will end, but time itself will continue."
"Dave's work speaks to the moment we're in, while he taps into his experiences over the course of 45 years," said David Hale, The Gallery at the Linen Building owner. "The layers of his work represent his life: active with a variety of textures. It's in each individual piece one discovers his loose and experimental style."
DAVE THOMAS ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is about the moment of the making, titled by the date completed ... not preconceived or planned. A documentation of living and painting for the last 45 years of my life ... spending time in the Rocky Mountains 30 of those years ... the session in the studio ... direct and head to work. Considering: materials, art history, current events, my age, my travels, dialog with my peers, my next show venue, who I am, where I came from, where I'm going. Each painting starts with experimentation, discovery, find, loose, trial and error ... then investigation and problem solving. All things for me must be worked out in the studio.
