Janet Worthington as Mary Hallock Foote
Boise Public Library will be hosting Dr. Janet Worthington's portrayal of Mary Hallock Foote in February and March, offered as part of this year's Read Me Treasure Valley Project. Four performances are scheduled, all at 7:00 p.m.: Thursday, February 21, at the Main Library; Tuesday, February 26, at the Library! at Cole & Ustick; Thursday, March 7, at the Library! at Collister; and Wednesday, March 13, at the Library! at Hillcrest.
Dr. Worthington explores the many talents of Mary Hallock Foote, novelist and artist, as she portrays Foote's experiences in Colorado, Idaho, California and Mexico. Foote, an acclaimed author and illustrator, left her New York home to follow her husband Arthur Foote into the frontier of the American West. She wrote twelve novels and created illustrations for such classic writers as Louisa May Alcott, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Bret Harte. Her novels and illustrations brought new insights into life in mining camps and ranches, and demonstrate her talent for transforming her life into artistic work.
Worthington received her Ph.D. in English Education from Florida State University. She has taught in a number of universities and is Professor Emeritus from Plattsburgh State University of New York. Dr. Worthington currently teaches seminars for the Professional Development Center at Boise State University.

Overland Rd. in the Hillcrest Shopping Center.
