Let Me Be Brave: Portraits of Courage

Idaho
photographer Susan Valiquette has been taking portraits of Idaho
Special Olympic athletes at their summer and winter games for the past
six years. Valiquette’s interest in the events and the participants
are both personal and professional. Her son Rueben is a participant,
and, Valiquette, who studied with renowned photographer Emmet Gowin, is
interested in capturing both the extraordinary and the mundane aspects
of humanity on film. In her first solo museum exhibition, BAM will
feature over thirty portraits of Idaho Special Olympic athletes in
conjunction with the 2009 World Winter Special Olympic Games being held
in Boise this February.
