2012 Fire Season Update and Boo Boo the Bear
Karen Miranda Gleason is the Communication Coordinator of the Fire Management Branch of the US Fish & Wildlife Service at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise. On December 11, 2012 at 7:00PM Karen will be giving an update of the near record fire season in Idaho for the summer of 2012. She will talk about the fires that affected the Boise area including the Trinity Ridge, Halstead and Mustang fires. Karen's firecrew was responsible for finding and saving Boo Boo the bear at the Mustang Fire. She will offer firsthand knowledge on the care and recovery of the black bear.
The public is cordially invited to the annual Friends of Deer Flat potluck dinner and general meeting at 6PM, prior to the lecture. Learn how the Friends of Deer Flat organization supports the refuge and connects people with wildlife. Meet others who enjoy spending time at the Refuge. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.
This presentation is part of the Wild About Life monthly lecture series presented by Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. The next presentation will be held on January 8, 2012. This presentation is a lesson in nature photography. Mike Shipman, freelance photographer and photography instructor will offer tips in creating extraordinary landscape photography. The entrance to the refuge visitor center is at the intersection of Roosevelt and Indiana in Nampa.
