The Idaho Black History Museum will mark the end of slavery with a traditional celebration. The event will include Speakers, Proclamations from City and State officials, Recognition of Volunteers, Exhibit of 100 Year Old Quilts, events for the children, tours of the museum and lots of fun!
Events will run concurrently at both the Museum and at Shelter #2 in Julia Davis Park from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Keynote Speaker: Reverend France A. Davis
Key Speaker: Reverend France A. Davis
The Reverend France A. Davis was born and reared on a Gough, Georgia farm to John H. and Julia Davis. After high school, he attended Tuskegee Institute and later became an Air Force jet mechanic. He later earned degrees in Afro-American Studies from Merritt College; Arts and Humanities from Laney College; Rhetoric from University of California at Berkeley; Religion and Philosophy from Westminister College; Master of Mass Communication from Northwest Nazarene College. The Reverend Davis served as chairman of the committee that sponsored the bill to have 600 South named after Martin Luther King Jr., and to establish King’s birthday as a Utah holiday. He is now working to support legislation to fight racial profiling. Reverend Davis is full time pastor of the historic Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Salt Lake City, Utah.
