Underground Above the City: John & Marjorie Fairchild's Rammed Earth House

In 1952, using the rammed earth, logs, dynamite, and ingenuity, Jon and Marjorie Fairchild began construction of their dream house. Historian Elizabeth Jacox will tell the story of the 20-year project and the remarkable couple who created a unique retreat.

Elizabeth Jacox has more than 30 years of experience in the field of historical research. She received her B.A. in history from Idaho State University in 1980. She worked for the Idaho State Historical Society for fourteen years where she was responsible for managing the historic photograph collection and assisting the public with research in special collections and archives. She joined TAG in 1995 serving as project manager for numerous historic site surveys and collections management projects. Special research interests have included the work of photographer Jane Gay, the history of Boise neighborhoods, and stories about interesting people and unusual buildings.

General Admission is $3-5; Free for Friends and ISHS members.
