Gene Harris Jazz Festival
June 22, 2008 4:00PM at First Presbyterian Church, 950 W. State Street, Boise
The June 22nd concert will be Duke Ellington's Best of the Sacred Services.
It will be preformed by the Riverside Jazz Orchestra with soloists Cheri Buckner Webb and Mark Thornton.
From 1965 to 1973 Duke Ellington wrote three large works for big band, choir and soloists and referred them as his "sacred concerts." They combined jazz, classical music, choral music, spirituals, gospel, blues and dance. These were written for performance rather than for worship services. Ellington said the the "sacred concerts" were the most important music he's ever written.
The recital is free and open to the public. Tickets, however, are required and may be poicked up at the First Presbyterian Church Dorsey's Music and Dunkley's Music. First Presbyterian Church is located at the corners of 10th and State Streets, downtown, Boise. Contact: (208) 345-3441.
