Major League Quidditch Debuts in Boise
12:00 PM
Ann Morrison Park
Major League Quidditch (MLQ) is debuting in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, June 16.

The Boise Grays are hosting a three-game series against their division rival, the Salt Lake City Hive, at Ann Morrison Park from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

MLQ is the highest level of real-life quidditch in North America. The league is home to 16 teams across the United States and Canada. The Grays, named after the gray wolves reintroduced to Idaho in the 1990s, are the newest team in the league and are playing their first-ever games.

Quidditch is a gender-integrated, full-contact sport played by over 500 teams in 27 countries. The rules were adapted from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series, incorporating elements of basketball, rugby and dodgeball.

Boise is home to an active and growing community of quidditch players. The Grays include many past and present players from the successful program at Boise State University, which was nationally ranked in 2016.

The Grays are competing to qualify for the league’s marquee event, the 2018 MLQ Championship in Madison, Wisconsin. The top three teams in each division receive an invitation to the tournament.
