Star Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-Off
11:00 AM
Hunter's Creek Park
Think you have the best chili recipe? Love to eat chili but don’t want to cook? Chili not your thing but you like to watch people compete? Want something new to do and support the local community? Then save the date on September 22nd for the 1st Annual Star Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-Off. This new family-fun event will be held at Hunter’s Creek Park (corner of Star Rd and Floating Feather) in Star. The Chili Cook-Off Planning Committee is currently hard at work organizing the event to make it fun for everyone. Plus, the Star Chamber will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association on October 6th at the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park in Meridian.

The teams competing will start creating their spicy masterpiece after 7 am. The public is invited to arrive anytime after 11:00 when all the action really begins. Smell the spicy aroma of multiple chili pots simmering. See the cooks put their finishes touches on their chili and get ready to start serving at 12:00. Chili will be ready for tasting at 12:00. Receive a bag of tasting cups, three tickets to vote for your favorite chili and sponsor give-aways for only $5 adult and $3 ages 9 and under.

Plus, you won’t want to miss the pie-eating contest at 11:45. Cheer on brave contestants as they (try to) get more pie in their belly than on their face and scarf down one pie as fast as possible. Love pie and want to compete? Download the pie-eating contest sign-up form available at staridahochamber.com. The contest will be limited to the number of contestants so don’t delay! The planning committee is still working out all the details and rules for contest; but we have decided there will be at least two categories – youth and adult. Kaila Myers, owner of the Home Cake Shop has generously agreed to donate the pies. Thank you Kaila!

What event like this wouldn’t be complete without a raffle? Purchase your tickets early by stopping by LifeSpring Christian Church (174 N. Star Rd.) or Penrose Advertising (9660 W. State in Toon Town). Want to donate an item for the raffle? You can drop it off at either above location or contact the Chamber at (208) 908-5476.

A few other fun activities include watching bagpipers, visiting business sponsor booths, and maybe even enjoying a cold beer with your chili from the Crescent Brewery beer garden. The award ceremony will take place at 2:30 where 1st, 2nd and 3rd best teams as determined by the judging panel will be announced and given a cash prize and trophy. The People’s Choice trophy will also be award to the team who has the most tickets by the public tasters.
