Sinker Butte - Explosive History of Southwest Idaho
Dr. Brittany Brand, Professor of Geology at BSU specializing in volcanology, will lead folks to the Swan Falls Dam area to examine Sinker Butte, possibly the biggest hydro-volcano in the world. Other volcanic features of the western Snake River Plain will also be reviewed. No pre-registration required. $15 Non-members, $10 Museum members, sponsored by Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd, www.idahomuseum.org and Facebook. We will register at the WinCo parking lot on Meridian Road off I-84 (Exit 44) at 7:30 AM for an 8:00 AM departure. From there we will travel south on Meridian Road (Highway 69) to Kuna and then down Swan Falls Road. Bring lunch and water and dress for the weather. Return to Boise by 5:00 PM.
